Angry Unlocking TA...

I am devolping a strong hatred for pvp. Why? RANDOM ARENAS... I have literally been trying to unlock team arena for HOURS and I can not get 5 consecutive wins in random arena. Everytime I get "lucky" enough to get into a BP or just a strong mix, someone convienently leaves mid-fight.

WTF is with random arena anyways? I thought this game was about SKILL, not RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing being "lucky" enough to get a group of people who know what they are doing and have a large enough attention span to actually stay it out for five wins...

All I want to do is try HA for the weekend event, but I can't even make it through RA... Not because of my build, not because I lack UB3R SK1LLZ, but mostly because teams fall apart just as quickly as they are thrown together...

I've been up to three flawless vitories in a row, things are looking great, then bam monk leaves... Ok new team, doing well again, oh wait another quitter.

Think of the people you're screwing over every time you quit on your team! Oh and I'm sure I'll be flammed and called every form of a "noob" there is, but I know I'm doing my job and I know I'm running a decent build. Random Arena is utter bullshit, and goes against everything this game is supposed to be about.

do what i did , roll out a prefab pvp char (i chose a 'blinding prodigy' , got TA unlocked in about 10 minutes) and RA with it. anything with the capacity to heal others will most likely net you the 5 consecutive wins necessary without any type of difficulty.

edit: oh and gimmick builds work wonders in RA (most notably toucher & thumper), if you want to sink -that- low.

LOL. Complaining about getting 5 wins in RA? Well most people (assuming most people got prophecies before ANet changed it to 5 wins) had to get 10 straight wins in RA and we didn't get premades like Shock Warrior and a Boon Prot.

What works wonders more is a boon prot as Wasteland suggested. Except I'd run insp 9 and prot 10 since getting one more point of energy out of ihex doesn't seem too critical to me.

Before Arenanet changed it, anyone could warp to TA and Tombs without having to put up with RA crap. The only characters that had to go through RA to get to TA were PvE characters that had made it to Lion's Arch but not yet to Droknar's, and why you'd want a PvE character in TA without Droknar's armor or 200 attribute points is beyond me. In short, people who had accounts before January 19 got it easy, so I have no clue what you're talking about.

People ran boon prots and shock wars before they made them premades, not the other way around.

Sorry hand, I just had to lol when I saw your post and your proffession stating that you are a W/Mo.

But seriously, just roll one of the premades and play with it. When I'm playing boonprot or something as long as I can get a team that does some damage, I'm almost guaranteed 5 wins.

What he meant was when the game came out we had the worst premades like the frozen burst snowman ><. Since he new to the game has actual useable premades to jump right into pvp.

I know the feeling. I decided to try RA for the first time this weekend gone and this was the experience I had as well. People just leaving for no apparent reason at all.... could be during the countdown to the match, during the match (even if we were winning), after the match when we have won, etc... There just seemed to be no logical explanation for this behaviour.

All I can say is, stick with it. I did and I ended up in a good team consisting of a Monk, Mesmer and a Ritualist, with me as a Ranger (Beastmaster).

We won 18 consecutive matches, with more than 50% being flawless victories. Shame we didn't get 20, but it was good fun and it certainly made up for all the frustrations beforehand.

It is down to luck in getting into a team with the right people. I was very lucky to end up in the team I was in, not because of the wins, but especially for one win. The match took over 30 minutes. They knew they couldn't beat us, so they ran. We had no snares, so we chased. I did fear that one or more would leave purely out of frustration, but everyone stayed. We finally won and continued to plough on in high spirit.

If I had given up on RA much earlier, I would not have had the opportunity to play in such a good team. I'm just happy that I stuck it out. There are good players out there, those with the skills and the attitude to match.

OBJECTION! IVEX trapper ftw. That was leet. Yes the others were terrible but highly amusing. Defenatly worthwhile for comic value. I do agree with the others - learn to monk.

Reason: Gladiator Point farming.

Personally I think making TA a locked area is a horrible idea. I have some friends I wanted to introduce to GW PvP, and the perfect place to do that would have been TA. Unfortunatly they had to slog through RA with a bunch of strangers, and they ended up getting frustrated and giving up. Players new to the game wanting to jump straight into PvP with their friends now have no option to do so, instead they have to grind through the abomination that is RA.

Btw, If you want a great build for RA, I would go Air Spike.
Here's what I run:

Attributes:
16 Air Magic
13 Energy Storage

Chain Lightning
Lightning Strike
Enervating Charge
Lightning Surge
Whirlwind
Blinding Flash
Air Attunement
Ressurection Signet

I'll give you an example of how good it does.
Joined an RA game where 3 monks were on my team....yes 3. One instantly left because of the stupidity in it ><. I, along with the other 2 monk's wands proceeded to tear apart the other team. Well okay, obviously me but...you get the point. It is perfect for taking out casters. Cast Surge first and then Chain right after. Surge will knock them down and do the 120 damage, and then Chain hits at about the same time for another 100 damage. Instant half health? Enervating next for the Weakness, and then just unload.

BTW. I love RA.

LOL Mephisto you beat me to it, dangit. Well yeah, RA is horrible, everytime I RA I lose all faith in humanity from the gross of mending wammos, touch rangers with vamp gaze and siphon...touchers are bad enough, dont put 10 cost "spells" on them, and yes, people who just dissapear for no apparent reason. I am a little curious to see what your build is though Hand...if you dont mind I'd like you to post it :P. If you dont want to its fine though. But yeah, now days premades are actually decent, they used to be so horrid...I want to kill the guy who made the Paladin premade, and any of the other ones that had a hard rez on them. The only self heal a warrior should have in PvP is Heal Sig, the only stances frenzy, sprint/rush, and maybe bulls charge if thats what you're into.

yeh, thats why i only ta with a certain group of people, and not every day just whenever theyre on
any other time ill hop in ra as monk or blindbot; anything else just doesnt guarantee a win in there with the randomness of builds and groups
being monk means your team will never rage on you either, since thats why most people rage; they see no monk so right away they think ok we lose no monk

If you want a consecutive win run in RA, the best way is to run a Ritualist spirit spammer that is defense/holding based or a powerhouse monk build such as Boon Prot. These builds can single handedly carry a mediocre team to a long string of victories so long as you are up to the challenge.
